Why Sell on Amazon?

Oct 10, 2016

Whether you have a successful brick and mortar business, or you are just looking to sell things out of your home, Amazon is an essential place to sell. Here are 6 reasons why.

1. Amazon is the largest internet-based retailer in the world.

In fact, they recently passed Walmart as the largest retailer in terms of market capital. This is a huge marketplace, where third party merchants make up a large percentage of the sales (as high as 90% in certain categories).

2. Amazon is the 6th most visited website on the internet,

receiving over 140 million unique visitors per month. These are all potential customers. Unlike visitors to Google, Facebook, or other sites where you can advertise your products, people come to Amazon to shop.

3. About 63 million people have Prime accounts.

These are active shoppers. It is estimated that Prime members spend $1200 per year on average (vs $500 for non-Prime members).

4. Amazon can take care of fulfillment and customer service for you.

It’s called FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon). Ship the items you want to sell to Amazon’s fulfillment centers, and when they are purchased, Amazon will pick, pack, and ship them for you. Being part of FBA also means that your customers get to take advantage of Prime shipping perks. If your customers have delivery or shipping problems, Amazon will take care of it for you, as well as handling your returns.

5. Inexpensive to start.

No listing fees. Amazon referral and fulfillment (if applicable) fees are taken from sales. Beyond that, there is a $40 per month fee for higher volume sellers, or you can opt to pay $0.99 per item sold.
